St Mels Psychotherapy Practice gained its name from the Saint Mel born in the fifth century. He is reported to have been one of 19 children and as he grew it is said that he earned his keep through manual labour and donating any excess monies to the poor.
Regardless of his role as a Bishop, he did not escape slanderous tongues who spread serious accusations against him. It is said, that having gone to great and extraordinary lengths, he did prove his innocence but clearly marred by the allegations, he continued through life in a manner that enabled him to avoid further scandal, predominantly living alone.
For us this story, true for St Mel or otherwise, strikes a chord on many levels. Centrally it was about embodied humility as well as forgiveness in the face of adversity. We work with a range of individuals who have faced adversity and our aim is to support them to overcome it.
